Malta National Aquarium in Qawra in Malta

After a 2 year building time, the Malta National Aquarium was opened on October 3, 2013 on the seafront in Qawra. The project costs came in at around €15m and were partly funded by the EU.
The aquarium complex spread over 20,000 square metres and also includes the Cafe del Mar club, a landscaped area with cafe and large screen (often showing football matches), a gift shop, kids play area and restaurant. There is also a multi-level car park.

The Malta National Aquarium contains more than 130 species of fish kept in 26 tanks. Many of the tanks are themed around natural attractions of the Maltese coastline (Azure Window, Blue Grotto, etc).
The aquarium's main tank is around 12 metres long and features a tunnel which visitor can walk through and view the fish swimming above. This tank contains tropical fish, rays and sharks.
