Parks, Gardens in Malta

Due to the limited space on the islands, parks and gardens are generally not very large in Malta. Nonetheless there are many very beautiful and well looked after gardens spread across the islands.
Some are horticulturally important, featuring tree and plant species from around the world.
The most noteworthy is undoubtedly San Anton Gardens in Attard which dates back to 1623 and features ornamental sculptures and ponds with ducks and swans.
The Upper and Lower Barrakka gardens in Valletta are relatively small but offer outstanding views over the Grand Harbour and the fortifications.
Ta' Qali National Park of Malta is built on the location which was the RAF airfield during WWII and is an ideal location for families with plenty of room for picnics and for children to play. Most gardens in Malta are free to enter. There are a few which ask a small entrance fee or donation for viewing, most notably the Villa Bologne gardens in Attard.
